Annual Celebrate America’s Military Begins Thursday

The Chamber’s annual Celebrate America’s Military (CAM) features numerous local organizations partnering with over 30 corporate sponsors to host nearly two dozen events throughout an eleven-day period. These events are designed to honor and support the men and women of our nation’s military and celebrate their service to the United States of America.

CAM officially begins with The Greater Chamber’s Kick-Off Luncheon on November 1. Additionally, there are many open-to-the-public events military members and local citizens are invited to attend over the following eleven days.

On Saturday, November 3, Texas A&M University-San Antonio will host Saluting America's Heroes, an all-day event featuring a veterans benefits fair, Taste of Cultures Food Fair, an enlistment oath ceremony, an ROTC cadet contracting ceremony and a lighted 2-mile Freedom Walk.

Saturday evening, head to the AT&T Center for Celebrate America’s Military Night at the San Antonio Spurs Game, where our beloved home team takes on the Utah Jazz. The Chamber and the business community have sponsored over a hundred tickets for local military members to attend the game. Click here and enter the code “Spurs” to get special pricing and to celebrate our military with the Spurs. For information on how you can donate tickets to local military members, contact Will Garrett at (210)229-2163.

On November 4, the Air Force’s Tops in Blue will perform a special edition of their “Listen” concert at Trinity University’s Laurie Auditorium starting at 4 p.m. Tops in Blue is one of the oldest and most widely-traveled entertainment groups of its kind. Composed of 35 to 40 of the most talented vocalists, musicians, dancers, and technicians anywhere, their primary purpose is to perform for military personnel and their families throughout the world. However, the enormous popularity of the group has also made them America’s goodwill ambassadors around the globe. “Listen” is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

Ft. Sam Houston and U.S. Army North will host two events at the historic Quadrangle during CAM 2012. On the November 4, visit our city's oldest military installation and enjoy the pomp and patriotism of Ft. Sam's 323rd Army Band at a Concert at the Quadrangle. Then to recognize the immense sacrifices and obstacles that Vietnam war veterans have endured since their official homecoming 50 years ago, The Chamber, military leaders, and the San Antonio community are coming together for a Welcome Home, Vietnam Veterans Ceremony at the Staff Post Parade Field (by the Quadrangle) on November 7.

Come to Alamo Plaza in downtown San Antonio on Saturday, November 10 as we honor those who have served in our armed forces in the annual Veterans Parade and Wreath Laying Ceremony. After paying respect to our military at the Alamo Plaza wreath laying ceremony, you and your family will enjoy the rumble of military vehicles, wave to our city's top military leaders, and tap your toes to the beat of the military bands during the Veterans Parade.

CAM 2012 concludes with several moving ceremonies and a concert on Veterans Day. On Sunday, November 11, join us at the city's official Veterans Day Ceremonies at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Afterwards, head over to the annual Bexar County Buffalo Soldiers Commemorative Ceremony at the San Antonio National Cemetery. San Antonio is invited to close out the 42nd annual CAM with the Veterans Day "Salute to Service," a free concert featuring the United States Air Force Band of the West and the San Antonio Symphony in our beautiful Majestic Theatre, starting at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public but tickets are required.
