San Antonio Chamber Board of Directors Elects 2014 Leadership

The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors reaffirmed the election of David McGee, President and CEO of Amegy Bank in San Antonio, as the 2014 Chairman of the Board. McGee has been serving as Chair-elect during 2013. The Board also elected Henry Cisneros, Chairman of the CityView companies, as the 2014 Chair-elect.

McGee has more than 30 years of experience in commercial and investment banking and spearheaded Amegy Bank’s expansion into the San Antonio market in January 2007. He began his banking career at InterFirst Bank-Dallas, where he managed the bank’s Fortune 500 portfolio in New England and eastern Canada. Prior to 2007, he spent 23 years with JPMorgan Chase, last serving as President of the San Antonio region.

During his 28 years in San Antonio, McGee has built long-standing banking relationships with nearly 75% of the top 200 businesses in San Antonio, as well as numerous family-owned businesses across diverse industries. Throughout his career, he has been engaged in various buy-side and sell-side engagements, led numerous syndicated credits and advised on private placements and other capital raising assignments for local businesses.

Amegy Bank is a Texas-based commercial bank with more than $12 billion in assets serving the Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin markets in industry segments ranging from: commercial & industrial, commercial real estate, oil and gas, international, private banking, trust and investments, mortgage and treasury management. McGee is deeply involved in Amegy Bank’s day-to-day operations, as well as its long-term strategic initiatives, having held the positions of Chairman of Amegy Bank’s Local and State-wide Credit Committee, and he has been a member of the bank’s Senior Loan Committee, Management Committee and Credit Risk Committee.

McGee is also recognized as a respected community leader in our city, serving on the boards of the YMCA of Greater San AntonioWorld Affairs Council of San AntonioSan Antonio SportsSan Antonio Economic Development Foundation, United Way of San AntonioSouth Texas Chapter of the Leukemia Society, and the Cancer Therapy and Research Center of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He also co-led Goodwill of San Antonio’s recent capital campaign. He is a member of the Baylor University Hankamer Banking Panel and a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School in San Antonio.

McGee has been an active member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors since 2004. Most recently, he was chairman of the Chamber’s 2012 Economic Development Council and has served on several Chamber committees and task forces for many years. 

McGee has a BBA in Economics and Finance from Baylor University. He and his wife Paula have two children.

2014 Chair-elect Henry Cisneros’ CityView companies help urban homebuilders create homes priced within the range of average families and is a partner in building more than 60 communities in 13 states, incorporating more than 7,000 homes with a home value of over $2 billion.

Cisneros’ community-building career began at the local level. After serving three terms as a city councilmember, in 1981, Cisneros became mayor of San Antonio. During his four terms as mayor, he helped rebuild the city’s economic base and spurred the creation of jobs through massive infrastructure and downtown improvements. 

After serving as mayor, Cisneros formed Cisneros Asset Management Company, a fixed income management firm operating nationally and ranked at the time as the second fastest growing money manager in the nation.

In 1992, President Clinton appointed Cisneros to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). As a member of President Clinton’s Cabinet, Secretary Cisneros was credited with initiating the revitalization of many of the nation’s public housing developments and with formulating policies which contributed to achieving the nation’s highest-ever homeownership rate.   

After leaving HUD in 1997, Cisneros was president and chief operating officer of Univision Communications, the Spanish-language broadcaster which has become the fifth-most-watched television network in the nation. Cisneros currently serves on Univision’s Board of Directors. 

Cisneros has served as President of the National League of Cities, as Deputy Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and is currently Vice Chairman of the International Board of Habitat for Humanity International. Cisneros remains active in San Antonio’s leadership where most recently, he served as Chairman of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation. He is currently a member of the advisory board of the Broad Foundation

Cisneros holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Texas A&M University. He earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, studied urban economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, holds a Doctorate in Public Administration from George Washington University and has been awarded more than 20 honorary doctorates from leading universities. He served as an infantry officer in the United States Army and is married to Mary Alice P. Cisneros, who from 2007–2011 served on San Antonio’s city council. They have three children and four grandchildren.
