ALAMO City Beer Challenge Sets Dates Series To Prepare Runners For Half or Full Marathons San Antonio based ALAMO Beer Company and others will be proudly sponsoring the race series titled, “ALAMO City Beer Challenge.” The first challenge, a 5k/10k, is July 13 at Leon Creek Greenway - Valero Park Trailhead. Challenge two, an 8k/16k, will be held on August 4 at McAllister Park. Challenge three, a 10k/20k, will be held on September 9th at Concepcion Park. The final challenge, a 15K/20 mile run, will return to Leon Creek Greenway on October 21st. The purpose of the series is to gradually increase distance and time in preparation of a half or full marathon. Full race details and directions can be found at www.scallywompus.com. The race was founded by Bart Childers who felt there was a better way to create a training series for half and full marathons. “After talking with several trainers about distances and times I developed a race that was price conscience, logical and benefitted the runners in the best way,” stated Childers. Runners are provided a progression through four races that occur over a four month period. The race also is an opportunity for participants to sign up for the Marrow Donor registry. “ALAMO Golden Ale has a tradition of supporting the local running community and their charities,” stated Eugene Simor, President of ALAMO Beer Company, “the ALAMO brand will continue to promote a ‘Fiercely Independent Spirit,’ endurance events such as ‘ALAMO City Beer Challenge’ absolutely fall in line with our brand’s core messaging.” The race began in 2011 and ALAMO Golden Ale plans to grow with this event. “It’s exciting to be a part of a such a positive and worthwhile race series,” concluded Simor.
