Two milestones will be celebrated jointly at San Antonio-based Kiolbassa Provision Company with birthday cake for customers and family from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the company’s Westside headquarters situated at 1325 South Brazos (78207) in honor of the company’s 65th business anniversary and the 100th birthday of founder and patriarch Rufus Kiolbassa.

“November 22 would have been Rufus’ 100th birthday. He founded the company 65 years ago but unfortunately he died at only 45 from a brain tumor,” explains third generation Kiolbassa Wendy Stiles, who serves as Director of Community Enrichment for the family business started in 1949 by her grandfather.

Kiolbassa has a long tradition of enriching the lives of the communities they serve through product donations. Beyond non-profit groups who benefit from sales of donated product, the company also donates thousands of pounds of product to food banks across Texas and parts of the United States, says Stiles.

The small celebration will be shared with Saturday morning customers who frequent the plant to secure premium smoked sausage for events such as family gatherings, football tailgating and backyard celebrations, explains Kiolbassa President Michael Kiolbassa, who is the third generation family member to head the 65-year-old company situated on the city’s Westside and started by his grandfather. Wendy is Michael’s cousin.

Kiolbassa family brand sausage is made with choice beef and pork, fresh spices, and has no fillers, no MSG, is naturally smoked and is gluten free. This year alone, the 25,000-sq.-ft. federally inspected plant will produce more than 14.5 million pounds of sausage. Kiolbassa’s decades-long football tailgating tradition has been featured nationally in Tailgater Monthly magazine and on the Food Network. Kiolbassa is now available in 46 states, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Learn more online at www.kiolbassa.com
