Broadway Bank will receive the Alamo Area Council of Government’s 2014 Corporate Steward of the Year Award Dec. 3, at the council’s annual meeting at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. The AACOG was established in 1967 to enhance the quality of life of all residents of the Alamo Region in partnership with elected and appointed officials, funders, community partners and beneficiaries.
Broadway Bank was nominated for the award by Mary Hillis, Alamo Local Authority Planning Network Advisory Committee Member and a Connects Program Teacher at Alamo Heights Independent School District.
“Broadway Bank’s Care Corps takes the lead in our local community in volunteering for numerous non-profits and also participating in so many worthwhile events all in the name of making San Antonio a better place for all of us,” said Hillis.
The Care Corps program at Broadway Bank was established in 2004 to honor the legacy of giving established by Col. Charles E. Cheever, the founder of Broadway Bank. Almost 60 percent of Broadway Bank employees serve on the Care Corps and frequently bring along family members and friends to accomplish the mission. Care Corps has already served in nearly 100 charitable projects in 2014.
Jeannette Flores Westbrook, Broadway Bank senior vice president, community reinvestment heads the Care Corps and also serves on the board of Dress for Success, Communities In Schools and Project Quest and volunteers regularly with these organizations.
“Our Broadway Bank employees put on their red Care Corps t-shirts and instantly make a difference with generous and giving hearts wherever there is a need for volunteers in our community,” said Westbrook. “We are honored to receive the 2014 Corporate Steward of the Year Award and renew our commitment to make a difference in 2015.”
