CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Honors Top Nurses Within its Health System

Four, outstanding CHRISTUS Santa Rosa nurses were honored today for their efforts to extend the healing ministry Jesus Christ. The Special Honor for Individual Nursing Excellence (SHINE) Award recognizes nurses who exceed expectations while exemplifying characteristics of leadership, compassion, clinical skills, and educational standards.

This year's award winners were Danielle Haddock, BSN, RN-BC; Theresa Mangold, RN, CNL; Margaret Simmons, RN, BSN, CCRN; and Chad Harney, RN, BSN, CNOR.

Each SHINE Award recipient was recognized during a special Nurses' Week celebration at their respective Hospital campuses. Nurses' Week is designed to highlight the importance of the nursing profession by shining a light on its nurses for their dedication to the CHRISTUS mission.

This distinguished honor will be memorialized with the SHINE Award recipient's name and photo prominently displayed on a plaque at their respective campuses.

Haddock works in Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) Unit at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Medical Center. She is described by her peers as someone who has a calm and caring demeanor. Those attributes have allowed her to connect with her elderly patients as a charge nurse and preceptor.

Mangold brings 30 years of continuous service to CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills Women's Services Unit. Her deep base of knowledge and clinical experience is reflected in her willingness to coach other Associates and take the lead in developing studies and processes that help provide the safest environments for the smallest of patients.

Simmons is a nurse in the PICU at Children's Hospital of San Antonio, and her positive nature is having a lasting impact on novice nurses as they transition into the busy business of caring for babies. Simmons always has a kind word, soft smile, and caring attitude when interacting with her patients and her peers.

Harney is a nurse in the Surgical Services Unit at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels. Harney is in his second year as a leader in the Unit Council in the Operating Room. He is known as a team-player, who will jump in to help fellow nurses at any time. By striving for perfection and providing excellent patient care, he sets an excellent example for others to follow.

"I am extremely proud of all our nurses and the compassionate work they do," said Patty Toney, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Executive, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System. "And each SHINE Award recipient exemplifies what it takes to provide our patients with exceptional care, and I congratulate them for their efforts."
