School of Dentistry to dedicate Center for Oral Health Care & Research Sept. 10

WHAT:
The School of Dentistry at The University of Texas Health Science at San Antonio is dedicating its new, state-of-the-art Center for Oral Health Care & Research. The new building will enable the School of Dentistry to bring improved dental education, patient care and research to South Texas through its dental practice, UT Dentistry.

WHEN:
Thursday, Sept. 10. Come at 10:30 a.m. to get visuals inside the Center for Oral Health Care & Research before the event begins at 11 a.m., concluding with the surprise dropping of banners on the outside of the building.

Center for Oral Health Care & Research, 8210 Floyd Curl, 78229

PARKING:
Turn in by the COHCR sign on Floyd Curl. Identify yourself to our police officer, who will park you behind the building. Please call me at 232-5998 when you arrive.

WHO:

• UT Health Science Center President William L. Henrich, M.D., MACP, will discuss the community teamwork involved in building the School of Dentistry’s ultra-modern new clinical home. He also will comment on the potential for collaboration between UT Dentistry and its next-door neighbor, UT Medicine San Antonio, the School of Medicine’s clinical practice, housed in the Medical Arts & Research Center. The neighboring practices will soon be connected by a bridge, facilitating referrals and collaboration, and supporting good oral health as a factor in excellent overall health.
  
  
  
• School of Dentistry Dean William W. Dodge, D.D.S., will speak about the care provided through an academic dental practice in which dental students, dental hygiene students and dental residents learn their profession under the guidance of School of Dentistry faculty members, many of whom are nationally and internationally known educators, researchers and clinicians.
  
  
  
• District 26 State Sen. José Menendez has had a lifelong interest in UT Dentistry, h aving received dental care in the UT Health Science Center’s dental clinic as a child. He continues to bring his family to UT Dentistry for care.
  
  
  
• UT System Regent Alex M. Cranberg will officially accept the Center for Oral Health Care & Research into The University of Texas System family.
