The Chamber is honored to host a citywide ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the U.S. that occurred September 11, 2001. The observance, which is supported by our local military, police and fire departments, will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Alamo Plaza, when moments of silence will recognize the four different attacks that occurred on that tragic day. The commemoration is free and open to the public.
"This is a day that we can come together again, checking our ranks at the door and just be citizens as we all remember the sacrifices made that day," Chamber President and CEO Richard Perez said.
In addition to the moments of silence, local clergy will offer prayer, there will be patriotic music provided by an Army band, and attendees will hear remarks from leaders at the San Antonio Police Department, San Antonio Fire Department, federal office of the secret service, and local military leaders.
Following the service, there will be a 5K race coordinated by the Alamo Chapter of AUSA and representing USA Cares. The “Tunnel to Towers Run” will begin and end at the Alamo starting at 9:00 a.m. and will benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Visit their website for more information or to volunteer.
