Chamber’s Cyber Action Team Briefs Canadian Trade Commissioners and Air War College Students

On September 21, members of The Greater Chamber’s Information Technology (IT) Committee briefed two incoming groups on our community’s cybersecurity initiatives. In the morning, committee members briefed Ethan Benso and Steve Flamm, Trade Commissioners from the Canadian Consulate General. Benso and Flamm were in San Antonio exploring trade relationships in the cybersecurity and aerospace defense industries between Canada and the United States.

In the afternoon, IT Committee members briefed a group of students from the Air War College (AWC) out of Maxwell AFB, Alabama.

The AWC students were in San Antonio to visit the 24th Air Force, 688th Information Operations Wing, 67th Network Warfighting Wing and National Security Agency (NSA) to understand each organization’s perspective as it relates to cyberspace operations. The AWC students discussed current situations in their missions and the ongoing efforts of the military to further comprehensive cybersecurity preparation and defense for our nation.

Business, academic and government representatives met with the Canadian Trade Commissioners and the AWC military leaders to discuss the various initiatives in San Antonio to promote and expand our local Information Technology and cybersecurity industry. They discussed the various academic and workforce training programs here and what The Chamber is doing to align local efforts with national needs from the White House and the federal government.

These briefings allow for The Chamber to engage future leaders and experts in the field of cyber and get their feedback on our efforts and how we can align them with federal priorities.
