Children use play as their natural medium for communication. Child-centered play therapists use the power of play to help children express their feelings through toys instead of words. In CCPT, a play therapist provides a safe relationship and environment where children experience unconditional acceptance, understanding, and empathy which allows children to freely express their internal world. While writing this article, I had a conversation with a friend who recently moved to the United States. She said, “everything moves so fast here, it's hard to breathe.” I was reminded of how I was, and in some cases still am, centralizing Western ideologies that value production over people. My connection with the research team and our rituals created a counter-space that challenged these constructs by allowing me to slow down, build mutually supportive connections, and identify feelings that could potentially hinder my growth as a counselor and anti-oppressive researcher. Allies vs Accomplice⁣⁣  ⁣⁣ In the fervent arena of social activism, the distinction between allies and accomplices becomes a profound one. Allies often offer their support in spirit, standing in solidarity with those fighting for change. However, the term "accomplices" takes the concept of support a step further, emphasizing active, tangible contributions to the cause.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Accomplices put skin in the game—whether it be through vocal advocacy, financial support, leveraging their social or professional status, or participating in direct action. This perspective challenges individuals to reflect on the depth of their commitment to advocacy. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It's a call to move beyond passive support to embodying the change through concrete actions.
