Red McCombs is the founder of the Red McCombs Automotive Group, and has been recognized as one of the leading automobile dealers in the United States. His career began in 1950, since then he has owned and represented almost every brand of vehicle. His operations have included retail dealerships as well as importation and distribution of Japanese and Korean vehicles. Red has served two terms as Chairman of the Ford Dealer Council, and consistently ranked in the Top 100 Dealers in the United States, he has also been inducted into the National Automobile Dealers Association Hall of Fame.
Red moved to San Antonio in 1958 to partner with Austin Hemphill in this Ford store. The name was changed to Hemphill-McCombs Ford and then later to our current namesake, Red McCombs Ford, when he acquired sole ownership.
This was Red’s first Ford store, and where Red himself officed for 44 years before his family was finally able to convince him to move into our corporate office here in San Antonio. Red’s daughter, Marsha Shields was appointed Dealer Principal in 2002 and with our COO, Tim Cliver and GM, Shawn Barry has led this store to new and unprecedented heights. We have been voted Best Workplace in San Antonio by employees for the last 5 years and are repeat recipients of the prestigious Ford Presidents Award. Red McCombs Ford has been a member of the 100 club for over 38 years. We have held the spot of Top 10 for certified pre owned in the nation for the last 2 years and were awarded the largest increase in the Region for CPO sales this last year.
